Research Centres and Groups
Research Centres:
- Centre for Geo-Information Studies
The Centre for Geo-Information Studies is an established research centre at UEL. The Centre specialises in all aspects of geo-information science, systems and engineering applied broadly to areas of the physical, social and cultural environment. In particular, the Centre has an international reputation for data integration and analysis, modelling and simulation. The Centre has a number of research projects with the NHS, other local, national and international government bodies.
- Centre for Evolutionary Computing in Architecture (CECA)
CECA developed out of the success of the MSc Computing and Design course that has been running at UEL since 1991. With a network of staff, a post-doctoral fellow and research students, the centre builds upon staff research expertise into the potential that computers offer for generative modelling and the applications this has for the architectural design of space.
- Sustainability Research Institute
ACE staff in the Sustainability Research Institute (SRI) work on projects to research and develop the application of innovative eco-efficient technologies and processes, with a focus on changes in the physical infrastructure that benefit the environment and promote a carbon-neutral society. The SRI is a partner in the ERDF FLASH programme led by the Institute for Sustainability . SRI is a partner in a recently awarded EU FP7 IP, TURaS project. SRI member, Dr Mihaela Anca Ciupala, is active in an EU FP7 project researching Seismic Strengthening of Deficient RC Buildings under Ductile Post-Tensioned Metal Strips.
Research Groups
Research groups within the CITE are focussed on the Built Environment; Communications, Control and Electrical Power; Design and Manufacturing; Distributed Software Engineering; Environmental; and Information Security and Digital Forensics.
