University of East London Homepage

Welcome from the Dean

Hassan Abdalla

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the website of the School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering (ACE) at the University of East London.  We are striving to boost our international reputation as a centre of excellence for student experience and employability through delivering education and conducting research that shapes lives and society.

It is really an inspiring time for everyone in East London, especially with the advent of the Olympic Games 2012.  We are an ambitious sports university which has both a global look and international reputation.  Our impressive brand new state-of-the-art Sports-Dock facility will be used by the Team USA for their sport performance and operational base.

The School provides a dynamic and stimulating environment in which to study inspiring and creative subject areas such as architecture, product design, computing and engineering. ACE aims to be the leading provider of employable graduates in the country through introducing the latest pedagogical concepts, novel learning and teaching methods, and practice-based research of relevance to the local and regional cultural community. Our programmes are designed to encourage and nurture innovation and independent thinking, working towards graduating students who are skilled and respected professionals within their chosen field. At the heart of our curriculum is an ideas-led approach to creative risk, exploration, questioning, entrepreneurship and collaboration in pursuit of the most innovative and creative work.

We educate our graduates to tackle the future, to continue their own development autonomously and to develop the skills for which their prospective employers are progressively recognising a need. We have developed a distinctive provision that equips graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to foster the generation of original concepts that will contribute to wealth creation in London and the UK. Our curriculum encourages students to integrate the culture and values of their society in many aspects of their work.

One of the priorities is to attract, develop and maintain scholarship students, highly qualified academics, and technical and administrative staff in order to achieve our ambitious, but realistic strategic goals. We work in partnership with various industrial partners and professional bodies, to ensure that our graduates have the appropriate skills and knowledge to be highly employable.

I very much welcome you as you join our thriving community and wish you a very enjoyable and successful career.

Professor Hassan Abdalla PhD FRSA
Dean of the School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering.
