Singapore President greets Team Singapore at University of East London

Thursday 26 July 2012

The President of Singapore, Tony Tan, has been visiting the University of East London’s Stratford campus today to welcome Team Singapore athletes. The team will be using the campus as its recovery centre during the Games.

Alongside the recovery centre the Stratford campus will also house the Team Singapore Athletes’ Lounge, while the University will also provide accommodation for medical support staff during the Games. Representatives from the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) visited UEL last year to sign the agreement confirming the use of the campus.

The President greeted athletes at the campus and also spent time talking with the University’s Vice-Chancellor.

UEL Vice-Chancellor, Professor Patrick McGhee, said: “We are delighted to welcome Team Singapore to the University of East London and equally to welcome Singapore President, Tony Tan, who is here to visit the team today.”

He added: “Our partnership with Team Singapore is demonstrative of the relationships that we will continue to build far beyond this summer with our international partners.”
