UEL feels the glow of Olympic Torch

(Newham Torchbearer, Samuel Berhanu, on route via SportsDock)

The much-anticipated Olympic Torch Relay finally reached East London this morning passing by the front of SportsDock – the University of East London’s new £21 million sports facility, and Team USA’s training camp for the London 2012 Games.

The Torchbearer was 19 year old Samuel Berhanu who is a student at Newham Sixth Form College. Samuel played a key role at NewVic College promoting the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Earlier this week, East End boxing legend Ron Cooper and official London 2012 Torchbearer for Newham, took part in a symbolic handover ceremony in which an official torch from the 1948 London Olympics was handed over to UEL.

With just six days to go until the opening ceremony, some of the world's top athletes will be using SportsDock as they prepare to compete in the greatest show on earth.
