Mark Henry

Mark Henry, a weightlifter for the United States at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and current World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar, made a special visit to SportsDock this morning.

Mark Henry nicknamed himself the World’s Strongest Man after he qualified for the weightlifting competition at the 1992 Summer Olympics. In the run up to the Barcelona Games, Mark broke four national junior records in weightlifting.

Mark Henry also participated at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and was voted team captain, but finished 14th after suffering a back injury. Following his time as a weightlifter, a career in professional wrestling beckoned, when he signed a ten-year contract with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) back in 1996.

Speaking to UEL earlier today at SportsDock, Mark commented on the importance of athletes having the right type of training facility during the Olympics. He said: “It means a lot to have a facility like this. You want to be comfortable and train somewhere that you’re used to.”

During the visit, Mark met with United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and 24 Hour Fitness staff, as well as SportsDock fitness staff.
