USA Basketball players get set for Olympic final

Saturday 11 August 2012

Following last night’s emphatic win over Argentina, the Men’s USA Basketball team took time out of their training session this afternoon at SportsDock to offer UEL students advice on how to keep drive and ambition at the forefront of their lives.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow afternoon’s London 2012 Olympics final against Spain, Los Angeles Lakers’ star player, Kobe Byrant, offered invaluable guidance to students on how they can follow his example and be the best in what they do. He said: “I think my drive comes from the passion of the sport and loving what you do.  I really enjoy basketball and through that enjoyment, it just ended up that I was working hard.

He continued: “I think the important thing for kids to do is to find what their passion is and that is really the trick. If you find something you are passionate about at an early stage, then you pretty much have a leg up on everybody else.”

While Kevin Durant also reflected on how he became one of the world’s best basketball players by saying: “I felt so many times that I wanted to be the best and be at the top of the mountain. I am not there yet, so everyday I’m pushing myself to try and reach that goal.  First off, I wanted to be the best in my household by trying to beat my brother.  I then wanted to be the best in my area; the best in my state and then eventually in the country. I just try and set small goals, which will help me get to my big goals.”

The University of East London would like to wish USA Basketball the best of luck in their Gold Medal game at the North Greenwich Arena tomorrow at 3.00pm.
