Partners

As a sports-minded university, on the doorstep of London 2012, UEL has a key role to play in the Games and continuing legacy. And it begins with our Olympic and Paralympic Partners...

ASICS

The Games are central to UEL’s 5-year partnership with sports performance company ASICS.

Throughout the Olympics and Paralympics, ASICS has played host to athletes, ambassadors and business partners at a branded centre in the heart of UEL’s Stratford campus.

Beyond the Games, the company is providing bursaries and scholarships, to support research and attract more world class athletes to UEL.

British Swimming

During the Games, the swimmers’ support team set up home at UEL’s Docklands campus.

It’s all part of UEL’s long-standing partnership with British Swimming that dates back to 2005, when the London Games were awarded.

Together, we’re working to enhance UEL’s sporting offer and ensuring that swimming plays a key role in the 2012 legacy.

Capture the Event

UEL teamed up with Capture the Event, a digital events and online photographic imaging services company, during London 2012.

Based in UEL's Print Centre, students had the chance to work with Capture the Event producing images for athletes and spectators during the Games creating a variety of sporting event photographic montages for athletes and keepsake images for visitors to take away as mementos.

LOCOG: London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games

LOCOG recruited an army of Gamesmakers - volunteers in every field, to work out front and behind the scenes. And UEL connected students with the latest opportunities.

When the Games begun, students took on various roles that included greeting visitors, transporting athletes, supporting the world’s media - and generally helping to deliver a world class event.

In the process, students built up their CVs and developed employment skills that will benefit them in the future...whilst gaining a once in a life opportunity and an experience they will never forget!

Paralympics Ireland

Paralympics Ireland used UEL’s Duncan House Campus in Stratford as the venue for its Team Ireland Lodge during the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Duncan House acted as the team base outside the official Paralympic venues, and as a venue for athletes to meet and relax with fellow team members, families and friends.

USOC: United States Olympic Committee

Some of the world’s top athletes were on site at UEL throughout the Games, as part of our unique partnership with USOC and Team USA.

UEL’s Docklands and Stratford campuses played host to the thousand-strong team, with many athletes training at SportsDock, our brand new state-of-the-art sports facility.

As well as training and accommodation, the sites acted as a base for USOC’s sports performance services, logistical ops and media relations.

SSC: Team Singapore

During the Games, Team Singapore set up their recovery centre at UEL.

The centre provided high performance athletic services, and included an Athletes’ Lounge where competitors relaxed in between events and training.UEL also provided accommodation for SSC’s medical team.

These high-profile partnerships demonstrate UEL’s commitment to sport – not just for London 2012, but in the years that follow, as the Olympic and Paralympic legacy takes hold.
