Femi Bola

Director Employability

The Olympic and Paralympic Games offer a host of opportunities for UEL students. As Head of Employability & Enterprise, Femi's brief is to improve the employability of UEL students and manage the Employabilty & Enterprise Team at UEL.


Selena Bolingbroke

Pro Vice-Chancellor, Strategic Planning and External Development

Selena develops strategic policies and partnerships that underpin UEL's involvement in the regeneration of our region and ensures our students have the best opportunity to make their mark in the world through their employability and entrepreneurship skills


Nirmal Borkhataria

Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Finance

Leading on UEL's £21 million sports and academic centre development, SportsDock, which opened in 2012 and has been selected by the United Stated Olympic Committee as their high-performance training centre for London 2012. Nirmal is also championing UEL's aspirations to become the leading university for sport in London by 2015, coordinating partnerships such as those with the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), the British Paralympic Association (BPA) and other NGOs.


David Cosford

Director of Sport

Providing strategic and management leadership for all sports development throughout the University of East London including clubs, facilities and events, raising standards of performance and excellence, developing staff and student physical activity, initiating partnerships and coaching and volunteering.


Catherine Downes

Director of Corporate Marketing

Manages the Heads of Services across all of the Marketing Service for the University's Olympic operations. Involved from the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the US Olympic Committee and all levels of the planning and delivery with the focus on brand, reputation management, and marketing capital.


Sara Hazzard

Head of Communications and Public Relations

Communications lead for the University's Olympic and Paralympic operations. Produced the University's Olympic communications strategy. Coordinating all media, social media, digital, internal, events and marketing communications around the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games for the University. Developing and strengthening relationships with key partners including Team USA, Asics and Team Singapore are all within the PR remit of the Communications and PR team.


John Lock

Director 2012 Office

John Lock is the Director of UEL's 2012 Office which is the University's initial channel for engagement and collaboration with all aspects of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games and Legacy. He has worked in east London on regeneration challenges for over 25 years.


Mary Nicholls

Director of Olympic and Paralympic Operations


Dr Neville A. Punchard

Dean of School of Health, Sport and Bioscience

Neville initiated or led on early Olympic-related activity including attending the Beijing 2008 Olympics. He has subsequently developed links with Olympic teams, partnerships with the British Paralympic Association, British Swimming, Pro-Active East London and other organisations and with international sports universities. Neville has also overseen the creation of the Sport Science Field, professorial appointments in sport and the Director of Sports post, and has also championed the building of SportsDock.
